Two-time world champion Natasha Jonas has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first black woman to secure a British Boxing Board of Control manager's license. Hailing from Liverpool and aged 39, Jonas made history as Britain's first female Olympic boxer during the London 2012 Olympics.
Her new role as a manager will see her working with her protege Mikie Tallon, who is set to make his professional debut later this month. Jonas expressed her determination and self-belief, emphasizing that throughout her life, she has persevered and refused to give up on her ambitions.
"I've not consciously set out to be first to do anything; I just knew that I wanted to break down barriers and not be scared to do anything just because it hadn't been done before," said Jonas. She also appreciated the significance of being a trailblazer, noting that it makes her a part of history, and that's something no one can take away from her.
In addition to her managerial role, Jonas has had a successful career in the ring. She secured the IBF welterweight title by defeating Kandi Wyatt in July, adding to her collection of titles, which includes the WBC, WBO, and IBF light-middleweight championships.
The British Boxing Board of Control's general secretary, Robert Smith, expressed their delight at Natasha Jonas taking on a managerial role, highlighting her wealth of experience and describing her as an invaluable asset to the sport. This achievement marks a significant moment in the world of boxing.
