After failing to meet the weight requirement for his championship match against Leigh Wood, Mexico's Mauricio Lara had his WBA featherweight title removed from him.
The English boxer is qualified to win the championship in Manchester since Wood made the limit, according to promoter Eddie Hearn, and the fight will go.
The Saturday fight was not as anticipated by Wood's crew.
"I can't sit here and say we 100% rule out the fight not taking place," said Wood's trainer Ben Davison.
The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) expressed worries about how overweight the champion was as he attempted to stay under the nine-stone limit during a weight check on Wednesday.
Lara, 25, stopped losing weight since the BBBofC forbade him from dropping below 9st 2.5lbs, so on Friday he weighed 9st 3.8lbs instead.
If the rematch occurs, Wood, 34, could still be able to regain the championship that he lost to Lara in February.
In their first battle, the Englishman was stopped in the eighth round.
