Leon Edwards faced a tough setback after suffering his first stoppage loss in the UFC, with Sean Brady submitting him in the fourth round at UFC London. This defeat marked his second consecutive loss, following his welterweight title defeat against Belal Muhammad last summer.
UFC analyst Michael Bisping believes that Edwards' biggest challenge now lies in his mindset as he works to regain his position at the top. Speaking after the fight, Bisping emphasized the mental battle Edwards must overcome to bounce back.
During a discussion on TNT Sports, Bisping and Nick Peet analyzed Edwards’ next steps, highlighting how the loss has made him a target for rising fighters. Peet noted that many welterweights would now be eager to fight Edwards, seeing him as vulnerable.
Peet suggested that Ian Machado Garry could be a compelling next opponent for Edwards, citing the potential excitement of a Britain-versus-Ireland clash. He argued that such a fight would also help Garry enter the title picture.
Bisping supported the idea of an Edwards-Garry matchup, stating that Edwards needs an opponent who offers a stylistic challenge without being a wrestling-heavy nightmare. However, he stressed that Edwards' biggest battle will be against his own self-doubt.
Bisping questioned whether Edwards could accept his losses to elite grapplers and use them as motivation to rebuild. He pointed out that, at 31, Edwards still has time to regain his form and work his way back into contention.
Ultimately, Bisping believes Edwards has the potential to re-enter the title race but must refocus, secure key victories, and deliver dominant performances to reclaim his place among the division’s elite.
