Katie Taylor vs. Chantelle Cameron: English boxer knocks out Taylor in Dublin to keep undisputed title
Posted : 21 May 2023
Chantelle Cameron of England handed Katie Taylor her first-ever professional loss in Dublin, where she successfully defended her undisputed light-welterweight title.
Taylor's homecoming had been planned for seven years, but the undisputed lightweight champion was unable to give her fans the victory they had hoped for when she was defeated by a majority decision.
In a fast-paced match, Cameron's class stood out, and one judge gave it a 95-95 tie.
The 32-year-old Cameron's other two scorecards read 96-94, extending her winning streak to 18 games.
"If I'm honest I wasn't expecting the decision to go my way," Cameron told BBC Radio 5 Live after her win.
"I'm over the moon it went my way and the right woman got her arm raised."
While Cameron established herself as one of the greatest in the world by defeating the biggest female star in the sport, Taylor, 36, suffered her first loss since pulling out of the Rio Olympics in 2016 and her first loss in 22 professional fights.
When the results were announced, Cameron was greeted by her squad, and Taylor dropped her arm, clearly upset that her eagerly anticipated homecoming had ended in failure.
