Jon Jones has withdrawn from the UFC 295 main event due to an injury that will require surgery and keep him out of action for eight months. He suffered a torn tendon during training, specifically the one connecting his pec to the bone. UFC President Dana White confirmed this unfortunate development and announced that Tom Aspinall will replace Jones on the card, facing Sergei Pavlovich for the interim heavyweight crown.
The main event at Madison Square Garden will now feature Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira competing for the vacant light heavyweight title. Pereira, the former middleweight champion, rebounded from a loss to Israel Adesanya by defeating Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291, positioning himself for a shot at becoming a two-weight world champion.
Aspinall vs. Pavlovich has been added as the co-main event. British fighter Aspinall impressed early in his UFC career, winning five consecutive fights between July 2020 and March 2022. However, a serious knee injury against Curtis Blaydes in July of the previous year halted his progress.
After undergoing surgery and returning to action a year later, he defeated Marcin Tybura. Now, he faces a formidable challenge in Pavlovich, who boasts a six-fight win streak, with all victories coming by first-round knockout.
