Jarrell Miller Stirs Tensions with Fabio Wardley by wearing Norwich Shirt at Heated Press Conference

Posted : 07 April 2025

American heavyweight Jarrell Miller stirred controversy ahead of his upcoming bout with British fighter Fabio Wardley by donning a Norwich City football shirt during a fiery press conference held at Ipswich Town’s Portman Road. Wardley, a devoted Ipswich Town fan, is set to fight Miller at the stadium on 7 June for the WBA ‘interim’ heavyweight title.

Miller’s yellow shirt bore the words “going down 25,” a taunt aimed at Ipswich’s potential relegation from the Premier League. Explaining his antics, Miller declared his intent to back Ipswich’s rivals and alluded to his resilience in the ring despite a previous defeat to Daniel Dubois and past doping suspensions.

Tensions escalated when Miller accused Wardley of disrespect by allegedly releasing a diss track about him. The accusation led to a near physical confrontation, with Miller confronting Wardley and shoving his hand into the Briton’s face, prompting security to intervene.

Wardley denied the claim, saying he had no involvement in any such song and would have owned up to it if he had. The standoff forced both fighters to be separated before returning to their seats, while promoter Frank Warren condemned the incident, expressing concern over the negative image it projected for the sport.

Originally, Wardley was slated to fight WBA ‘regular’ champion Kubrat Pulev, but now prepares to face 36-year-old Miller, whose only loss came against Dubois in December 2023. Wardley, 30, remains unbeaten with 18 wins and one draw, boasting 17 knockouts.

The bout, now intensified by personal tensions and pre-fight drama, marks a major moment for both fighters and a rare occasion for Ipswich to host a world-level boxing event.
