Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury are set to clash again next month in a highly anticipated rematch. In their first meeting in May, Usyk emerged victorious by a split decision after a hard-fought 12-round bout. Now, former world champion Bernard Hopkins believes Usyk won’t need as much time to secure victory this time around, suggesting a “mercy” stoppage from the referee might end the fight early.
The two heavyweights are scheduled for a second showdown on Saturday, December 21, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Their initial encounter was closely contested, with both fighters having strong moments as the momentum swung back and forth. Ultimately, Usyk claimed the win on points, earning the title of undisputed heavyweight champion.

As the rematch approaches, Hopkins anticipates a clearer outcome in favor of Usyk. Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Hopkins expressed confidence that Usyk's previous experience with Fury will give him an edge, especially in terms of strategy and control. "Usyk, though smaller, has a big heart and the skills to back it up," Hopkins remarked.
He believes Usyk’s smaller size could actually work to his advantage, making him more agile and allowing him to leverage his technical skills. “I think Usyk has Fury’s number. His size, in this case, might even help him,” Hopkins commented, emphasizing Usyk’s ability to exploit Fury’s limitations.
Hopkins highlighted Usyk’s superior boxing IQ, which he feels will outlast Fury’s defenses as the rounds wear on. “I’m backing Usyk to win, maybe by a late stoppage, not from a knockout, but from a mercy call by the referee,” he explained.
Since their initial fight, Usyk has vacated the IBF title but still holds the WBA, WBO, WBC, and Ring Magazine belts, all of which will be on the line in December’s rematch. This time, Fury will be eager to reverse his first professional defeat and reclaim his standing.
As the date approaches, fans and analysts alike are eager to see if Hopkins’ prediction will come true and if Usyk can claim an even more decisive victory.
