Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has been appointed as the chairman of PFL Africa, a new regional league set to launch in 2025, following the footsteps of PFL Europe and PFL MENA.
Ngannou, 37, expressed his excitement and pride in his new role, stating that PFL Africa will provide a platform to showcase the abundant talent in African MMA on a global scale.
"I am excited and honoured to serve as Chairman of PFL Africa, a league that will shape the very foundation of African MMA," Ngannou said in a statement. "As we have seen, there is a great wealth of talent in Africa just waiting to be given a global stage. I am so very proud to give back to my homeland and to provide great content to a region with such a passionate and diverse fanbase."
A native of Cameroon, Ngannou, who signed with PFL in May 2023, aims to leverage his leadership to enhance equity and opportunities within the sport.
While Ngannou has yet to compete in PFL, he has gained significant experience in professional boxing, including bouts against Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
PFL CEO Peter Murray emphasized the significance of launching PFL Africa, highlighting Africa's rich combat sports heritage and passionate fan base, and expressed eagerness to expand PFL's global presence with the new league.
