Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford open at light middleweight: "I was already talking about moving up"
Posted : 30 July 2023
Terence Crawford showcased his dominance in the ring, maintaining his flawless record of 40-0 and unifying the welterweight division by defeating the previously undefeated Errol Spence Jr. in Las Vegas.
Following the ninth-round stoppage, talks of a potential rematch emerged, and while Spence Jr. is eager for another chance, he expressed his preference for the rematch to be fought at an increased weight of 154lbs. Crawford, on the other hand, remains open to the prospect of moving up in weight for the rematch.
Despite Spence Jr. not using weight as an excuse, he acknowledged Crawford's superiority in their first encounter, and he is determined to put up a better fight in a potential rematch scheduled for December or the end of the year.
Crawford's remarkable victory in the welterweight division solidified his status as the first undisputed four-belt world champion in the weight class. With no further challenges at welterweight, Crawford mentioned his interest in stepping up to light middleweight for future fights.
Widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing, Crawford's victory over Spence Jr. strengthened his claim for the top spot in the sport. Humble and respectful of the fighters who came before him, Crawford expressed that it is not his place to declare himself the best; instead, he lets his performances speak for themselves.
When asked if he considers himself the current pound-for-pound No. 1, Crawford confidently replied, "Without a doubt." He emphasized that with each fight, he proves the doubters wrong and firmly believes that the "Terence Crawford era" has begun.
