In an Instagram post published on Wednesday, Maiva Hamadouche, a former IBF junior lightweight champion, declared her retirement.
Hamadouche, 33, said in a letter that she is calling it quits on her fighting career owing to an eye injury.
From 2016, when she won a unanimous decision over Jennifer Salinas, to her last fight on November 5, 2021, when she was beaten by then-WBO junior lightweight champion Mikaela Mayer in a unification match, she held the IBF junior lightweight championship.
Hamadouche had made social media posts in the previous six months about attempting to secure a rematch against Mayer.
With 18 knockouts in her final 22-2 record, Hamadouche has had a successful career.
While competing as a professional boxer and representing France in the 2020 Olympics, Hamadouche fell to Mika Potkonen in her opening contest in the lightweight division.
