Dubois defends Oleksandr Usyk's WBO, WBA, Super, IBF titles on August 26

Posted : 14 July 2023
Daniel Dubois, the British heavyweight, is confident that he will bring Oleksandr Usyk's titles back home as they prepare for their fight on August 26. Usyk, the Ukrainian fighter, will defend his WBO, WBA (Super), and IBF titles against Dubois in Wroclaw, Poland. Dubois holds the WBA (Regular) belt and is the mandatory challenger for the bout.

Dubois expressed his readiness for the fight, stating that he is fully prepared and eager to win. He believes it is his time to become the champion and end Usyk's reign. With 19 victories, 18 of which were knockouts, and only one defeat, Dubois is determined to bring the titles home.

Usyk, undefeated in all 20 of his fights, made lighthearted remarks during the media conference, expressing his respect for his opponent and acknowledging Dubois' deserving position as the mandatory challenger. Usyk emphasized that it is time to stop talking and let their actions speak in the ring on August 26.

The fight was originally scheduled for August 12 but was postponed by two weeks to coincide with Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24. Due to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, the bout was moved to Poland, where over one million Ukrainian refugees have sought shelter.

Usyk's promoter, Alexander Krassyuk, explained that Poland was chosen to make Usyk feel like the "home fighter" and referred to Vitali Klitschko's previous title defense in the same city as inspiration.
