Daniel Dubois in Talks for Undisputed Heavyweight Clash with Oleksandr Usyk

Daniel Dubois is in discussions to challenge Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight championship. Dubois, the IBF champion, had to pull out of his scheduled title defense against Joseph Parker due to illness but has opted not to reschedule that fight.

 

Instead, his team is shifting focus towards a high-stakes bout against Usyk, who holds the remaining major world heavyweight titles. Dubois' camp is hopeful the fight could be staged in the UK, with Usyk’s promoter, Alexander Krassyuk, suggesting that Wembley Stadium is among the potential venues.

 

Dubois previously fought Usyk in 2023, suffering a stoppage defeat in Poland. Since then, he has rebuilt momentum with three consecutive stoppage victories, defeating Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic before capturing his first world title by beating Anthony Joshua at Wembley.

 

Usyk, on the other hand, remains undefeated in 23 professional fights and has claimed notable wins over Fury, Joshua, Dubois, and Derek Chisora. Many of boxing’s recent marquee heavyweight matchups, including Usyk’s two fights with Fury, have been hosted in Saudi Arabia, though a return to Wembley for this bout remains a strong possibility.

 

Usyk initially became the undisputed champion in both the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions but vacated his IBF heavyweight title after his first victory over Fury last year. This decision elevated Dubois, the interim champion at the time, to full IBF champion before his fight against Joshua.

 

The last British heavyweight to hold undisputed status was Lennox Lewis in 1999. In the four-belt era, only three Britons—Savannah Marshall, Josh Taylor, and Chantelle Cameron—have achieved undisputed status, making Dubois' potential shot at history even more significant.
