Daniel Dubois, the IBF heavyweight champion, has the potential to dominate the division, according to his promoter, Frank Warren. Following his impressive victory over Anthony Joshua in a five-round bout, Warren is eager for Dubois to challenge WBO, WBA, and WBC titleholder Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch. Their last encounter in August 2023 saw Usyk triumph with a ninth-round stoppage, but Warren believes Dubois has grown significantly since then and is prepared for another shot at the Ukrainian champion.
Dubois, now 27, was elevated to IBF champion after Usyk vacated the belt in June, shortly after his historic win over Tyson Fury, which made Usyk the first undisputed heavyweight champion in over two decades. Warren is confident in Dubois’ potential, claiming he is both physically and mentally more mature, and equipped with the necessary skills to eventually take over the heavyweight division. Despite a rematch clause in Joshua’s contract, Warren has expressed interest in sitting down to discuss future possibilities, including another showdown with Usyk.
Usyk, who was present ringside during Dubois' recent victory, is currently preparing for a rematch against Tyson Fury in December. Their last fight in 2023 was marked by controversy in the fifth round when Dubois landed a punch that sent Usyk to the canvas. However, the referee deemed it a low blow, giving Usyk additional recovery time, and Dubois eventually lost composure. Warren attributed Dubois' response to his inexperience at the time but insists that the fighter has evolved since then.
Meanwhile, Joshua, despite his defeat to Dubois, remains optimistic about his career. In a video posted on social media, the 34-year-old boxer emphasized the importance of focusing on the positives from his 11-year career, calling it a "rollercoaster journey" that is far from over. Joshua reiterated his intention to continue competing in the sport, aiming to bring even more to the ring in the future.
