The Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) is now racing against time as a lawsuit has been filed before the Federal High Court in Lagos challenging the legitimacy of its operations in Nigeria.

The suit was filed against the board of the NBBofC, with Rafiu Ladipo as President, Remi Aboderin as Secretary, and Chike Ring as Director. Also named as defendants are Tajudeen Sule, the Nigeria Boxing Federation, the National Sports Commission, the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, the Honourable Minister of Sports, and the Corporate Affairs Commission.

The plaintiff, Mr. Daniel Afolabi, a businessman and boxing promoter, is asking the court to halt the operations of the NBBofC, which he claims has been operating unlawfully and was not duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission since its inception. Afolabi's claims against the defendants are as follows:

1. A declaration by the court that the use of the name Nigeria Boxing Board Of Control (NBBofC) to extort and mislead individuals and organizations in Nigeria is illegal and fraudulent.

2. An order of the court directing the NBBofC to produce their certificate of incorporation issued by the Corporate Affairs Commission.

3. An order of the court directing the Nigeria Boxing Federation and the Federal Ministry of Sports to cease delegating their statutory powers to the NBBofC for financial gain.

4. An order of the court directing the NBBofC to publish a disclaimer in five daily newspapers, five radio stations, three television stations in the country, and one international news media outlet stating that they are not the regulatory body for professional boxing in Nigeria.

5. An order of the court directing the Corporate Affairs Commission to produce the Certificate of Incorporation of the NBBofC.

6. An order of the court awarding the sum of 10,000,000 naira to Mr. Daniel Afolabi for the stress and trauma he has experienced in registering his boxers with BOXREC.

All ten defendants are required to appear at the Federal High Court in Lagos according to the brief.
