Conor Benn: UK lifts Anti-Doping suspension, resumes fights

Posted : 29 July 2023
Conor Benn has announced that the provisional UK Anti-Doping (Ukad) suspension against him has been lifted, allowing him to fight in the United Kingdom again. The 26-year-old boxer had failed two voluntary tests for the female fertility drug clomifene before his scheduled bout with Chris Eubank Jr., which was later canceled.

In March, Ukad provisionally suspended Benn while conducting an investigation into the matter. However, after the National Anti-Doping Panel made its decision, Ukad confirmed that Benn is no longer provisionally suspended under the UK Anti-Doping Rules. There is still a 21-day window for Ukad to decide whether to appeal the decision.

Benn's promoter, Eddie Hearn, expressed relief that the "nightmare is over" for Benn, adding that he could potentially have a smaller fight in September before a more significant one in December.

In his statement, Benn expressed his relief and stated that he has been vindicated for the second time. The WBC had previously cleared him of intentional doping after conducting its investigation and considering a highly elevated consumption of eggs as a possible cause of the positive test.

With the suspension lifted, Benn plans to move forward and focus on his career, eager to remind everyone of his skills and dedication in the ring. He hopes that his case serves as a reminder that honest, dedicated, and clean athletes like him can also face such challenges. Benn intends to return to the ring as soon as possible and resume his career.
