Conor Benn secures unanimous points victory in first fight since doping suspension lifted
Posted : 24 September 2023
In his first bout since the lifting of his provisional doping suspension, Conor Benn secured a unanimous points decision victory over Rodolfo Orozco in Florida. The English fighter, aged 26, had been inactive since April 2022 due to failing two voluntary drug tests later in the same year.
The judges scored the 10-round contest 99-91, 99-91, and 96-94 in favor of Benn. After the fight, he commented, "I needed the rounds. I've been through hell and back. Britain's my home, it's only right I fight back there sooner rather than later."
This marked Benn's first fight in 525 days, and he remains undefeated with a record of 22 wins. He faced doping allegations after testing positive for the female fertility drug clomifene in two Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (Vada) tests leading up to his scheduled match against Chris Eubank Jr. last October.
Benn maintains his innocence regarding intentional doping. While the UK Anti-Doping (Ukad) provisionally suspended him in March, the National Anti-Doping Panel lifted his suspension in July following a hearing. However, Ukad and the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) are appealing this decision, and Benn currently does not hold a boxing license in the UK.
The match against Eubank Jr., which was initially slated to take place in October 2022, would have commemorated the 30th anniversary of the famous bout between their fathers, Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr.
