Chris Eubank Jr's trainer Brian McIntyre faces firearm possession charges over found gun in Manchester Airport luggage

Posted : 04 September 2023
Boxing trainer Brian 'Bomac' McIntyre has faced charges of firearm possession after a gun was discovered in his luggage at Manchester Airport. McIntyre, 53, who had been training Chris Eubank Jr. for a rematch against Liam Smith, was apprehended at the airport while preparing to board a flight back to the United States.

Following his arrest, McIntyre appeared in court on Monday and was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear at Manchester Crown Court next month in connection with the charges.

Greater Manchester Police reported that the incident occurred when airport staff discovered a potential firearm in hold luggage and subsequently alerted the authorities. The firearm was seized, and McIntyre, a 53-year-old American, was taken into custody.

McIntyre, renowned as one of the world's top boxing coaches, has had a remarkable career, guiding Terence Crawford to become the first two-weight undisputed world champion in the four-belt era. This achievement has made him a strong contender for the title of 'Trainer of the Year' in 2023.

The incident unfolded at approximately 10:45 BST on Sunday, following Eubank's 10th-round TKO victory over Smith at Manchester Arena. McIntyre's legal proceedings will continue in the coming months.
