Chantelle Cameron v Katie Taylor: Taylor moves up to challenge Cameron in light-welterweight contest
Posted : 20 May 2023
For their uncontested light welterweight match on Saturday in Dublin, Katie Taylor and Chantelle Cameron both made weight.
Both fighters weighed 9st 13lbs, and Taylor received a hero's welcome from the Irishwoman's passionate supporters who were watching her compete on home turf for the first time as a professional.
During the match, the Taylor-supporting audience shouted his name as Cameron cut a casual figure.
"I can't wait to get hold of those belts. I'm so proud to represent this great nation," Taylor said.
Taylor, 36, is challenging fellow undefeated champion Cameron by going up in weight from lightweight.
"Cool heads in a hot kitchen, just down to business on Saturday night," said the defending champion.
Taylor was presented to the audience second instead of first, as is customary for the defending champion in boxing, breaking with tradition.
A large throng gathered inside the Mansion House to cheer Taylor on as he performed the Irish traditional ballad Drunken Sailor with the help of two violinists dressed in sequined green costumes.
However, Taylor came in second at the scales, with Cameron appearing unfazed as she prepared for her greatest career bout.
