Bruno Surace's Stunning Knockout of Jaime Munguia Turns Him Into Boxing's New Sensation

Posted : 10 February 2025

Bruno Surace, a 26-year-old law student from France, made a stunning mark in the world of boxing when he defeated the world-ranked No. 2, Jaime Munguia, with a single right-handed punch in Tijuana, Mexico.

Surace had never seen the legendary "Rocky" films, but his knockout of Munguia in December was nothing short of cinematic. The fight, which shocked a crowd of 30,000 spectators, was the first time Munguia had ever been knocked out in his career, making Surace's victory an unforgettable moment in boxing.

The win, which earned Surace the prestigious "Upset of the Year" award from Ring magazine, came as a surprise to many, including boxing legends like Oleksandr Usyk and Canelo Alvarez, who cheered him on during the award ceremony in London.

Despite being considered an underdog and "cannon fodder" by many prior to the fight, Surace's bold move in defeating Munguia changed the trajectory of his career, allowing him to dream bigger than ever before, with aspirations of becoming a world champion.

Surace, who now trains at the Font-Vert boxing gym in Marseille, continues to maintain his humility and focus, even as his victory elevates him in the boxing world. While his knockout in Tijuana was an unexpected triumph, he remains grounded, surrounded by local amateurs and their families.

Laughing off comparisons to Sylvester Stallone's famous character, Surace acknowledges the "David vs. Goliath" nature of his victory, but he knows that his ambition is now to go even further and make a name for himself as a world champion.
