Amir Khan Gets Suspended from All Sports for Two Years After Testing Positive for an Illegal Substance
Posted : 16 April 2023
After testing positive for the prohibited drug ostarine, former world champion Amir Khan has been given a two-year suspension from all sports. The UK Anti-Doping agency discovered that Khan used ostarine the night of his defeat against Kell Brook. Khan, who announced his retirement from boxing in May 2022, insists that he did not purposefully consume the chemical that promotes muscular growth.
The verdict that Amir Khan had ostarine in his system on the night he lost to Kell Brook last year resulted in a two-year suspension from all sports.
Following a urine testing, Khan, who retired from boxing in May 2022, tested positive for the performance-enhancing substance ostarine.
After the favorable verdict, Khan's case was sent to a separate tribunal, which found no evidence of "deliberate or careless conduct."
Before confirming the verdict in writing in February, the panel identified two infractions in January: the presence and use of a forbidden drug.
The prohibition from participating in any sport is believed to have started on April 6, 2022, and it will end on April 5, 2024.
"I've never cheated," Khan said
"But I've got a two-year ban now, which is quite strange and funny because I'm already retired anyway.
"There's no comeback planned at all. But I've never cheated and I never will. That's just not something I would do."
Khan, who won the WBA world light-welterweight championship in 2009 and the IBF belt in 2011, is a two-time world champion and Olympic silver medalist.
Conor Benn's comeback to the ring is anticipated soon, despite the British boxer still having a criminal record after testing positive for clomifene twice before his bout with Chris Eubank Jr.
