African Senior Wrestling championships: NWF President applauds athletes performance

The president of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation Champion, Daniel Igali has applauded the successful outing of Team Nigeria at the just concluded African Senior Wrestling championships in Hammamet, Tunisia.

Daniel Igali appreciated the impressive performance of the Nigerian Wrestlers in all categories at the African events. 

The world and Olympic champion noted that the patriotic display of every individual saw the Olympics silver medallist Blessing Oborodudu retain her crown as 12-time African champion. 

Commonwealth champion Mercy Genesis clinched two gold in the 50kg and Beach Wrestling as Christianah Ogunsanya, Mercy Adekuoroye 57kg, Ebi Biogos 72kg and Adegoke Jumoke 55kg also added to the gold list.

Also, Patience Opuene 59kg, Kolawale Esther 62kg, Hannah Reuben 76kg and Ebipatei Moghenbofa 65kg added silver medals to the already gold-raining team coupled with Newlife Ebikeme bronze medal.

Team Nigeria finished the Championships with total of 9 Gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze, ensuring team Nigeria retains its team title in female wrestling to become 12-time African Female Wrestling Champions.

The NWF President, Igali appreciated the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for sponsorship and supporting the team while in Tunisia as it gave the wrestlers the moral boost to record the achievement.

Dr Igali equally appreciated the government of Bayelsa State for the continuous support rendered to the NWF, especially the Junior national team. 

Igali called on international and local investors to get involved and sponsor programmes of the Wrestling Federation as it has become one of the leading Federations in the country.

Igali added that more sponsorship will aid the NWF to prepare adequately for events as this is pre-Olympic year
