Nigeria's Nworie Emmanuel, in the 77kg class, has won a bronze medal in the Greco-Roman event, adding to Nigeria's overall medal tally.
Nworie defeated Hattingh J. of South Africa with an 11-0 superiority after what appeared to be a controversial semifinal for the Nigerian wrestler.
Speaking after the game, Nworie Emmanuel expressed dissatisfaction with his semifinal loss to the Egyptian opponent. Despite dominating almost the entire tie, he was defeated through technical decisions by the umpires.
"I really feel sad about my semifinal defeat because I gave my all to reach the final, but it wasn't meant to be. That's why I unleashed my anger on the bronze medal match," Nworie said.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, wrestling events resume as Nigerian wrestlers aim to improve the performance in women's wrestling, with athletes like Blessing Oborodudu and Odunayo Adekuoroye, among others, taking to the mat.
