Wembanyama Leads Spurs to 140-110 Victory Over Pacers

Posted : 24 January 2025

Victor Wembanyama led the San Antonio Spurs to a commanding 140-110 win over the Indiana Pacers at the Accor Arena in Paris, delivering a standout performance with 30 points. This game marked the first of two regular-season NBA matchups in Paris, and Wembanyama's remarkable display helped the Spurs defy expectations, as they entered the game as underdogs after a rough stretch of results.

The 21-year-old French star, who previously played for Paris-based Metropolitans 92, was playing in front of his home crowd for the first time since winning a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The NBA's annual regular-season games in Paris continue to attract a star-studded audience, with footballers such as Manchester City's Rodri, Paris Saint-Germain's Achraf Hakimi, Ousmane Dembele, and Barcelona's Pedri, Ferran Torres, and Eric Garcia in attendance.

Also present were former France internationals Robert Pires and Djibril Cisse, UFC fighter Ciryl Gane, and former French Prime Ministers Gabriel Attal and Lionel Jospin, adding to the high-profile atmosphere.

Despite a slow start to the 2025 season, with the Spurs having lost six of their previous eight games, Wembanyama's performance, supported by Devin Vassell's 25 points and Harrison Barnes’ 20 points, helped the team break their three-game losing streak. The Pacers, who had been on a strong run with eight wins from their last nine games, could not overcome the Spurs’ dynamic performance.

The two teams will face off again at the Accor Arena on Saturday, as the Spurs aim to build on their momentum and continue their push in the Western Conference, where they currently sit in 12th place.
