Victor Wembanyama's highly anticipated debut for San Antonio didn't go as planned. The French talent, who was selected as the No. 9 pick in the draft, struggled to find his rhythm against the aggressive defense of the Charlotte team.
He had a rough shooting night, scoring only 2 points on 13-of-68 shooting from the field. However, Wembanyama showcased his defensive skills by contributing 5 blocks and 8 rebounds in 27 minutes of play.
In contrast, Brandon Miller, the second-round pick for the Hornets, had an impressive performance. The forward recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds in 31 minutes.
He also displayed strong defensive work, including guarding Wembanyama effectively. Despite Miller's contributions, his team couldn't overcome the early deficit and suffered a defeat.
Leading the scoring for San Antonio were Julian Champney with 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, and Malaki Burnham with 17 points and 5 rebounds.
The team will face the Portland Trail Blazers in their second summer league game on Sunday. Following that, San Antonio will return home to host the Washington Wizards two days later.
