Victor Wembanyama, Jalen Brunson achieve personal bests in Spurs' victory over Knicks

Posted : 30 March 2024

Victor Wembanyama and Jalen Brunson both reached their highest career scoring marks as the San Antonio Spurs narrowly defeated the New York Knicks 130-126 in overtime at the Frost Bank Center. Wembanyama scored 40 points, while Brunson, the point guard, contributed 61 points.

Despite their remarkable performances, it was Brunson's missed three-pointer in the final seconds of overtime that prevented the Knicks from stealing the win.

Victor Wembanyama's outstanding performance, including his career-high 40 points, propelled the San Antonio Spurs to a crucial 130-126 overtime victory over the New York Knicks at Frost Bank Center. He also secured 20 rebounds and seven assists, making him the first rookie since Shaquille O'Neal in 1993 to achieve a 40-point and 20-rebound game.

Although Wembanyama's brilliance outshone Jalen Brunson's stellar performance, with the latter also hitting a career-high 61 points, the Knicks ultimately fell short.

Brunson praised Wembanyama's performance, acknowledging him as a future great in the game, despite missing a crucial three-point opportunity that could have changed the game's outcome.

Devin Vasell added 23 points for the Spurs, while Donte DiVincenzo of the Knicks set his team's single-season record for three-pointers with 245.

In other games, the Minnesota Timberwolves dominated the Denver Nuggets 111-98, led by Anthony Edwards and Mike Conley. Nikola Jokic struggled with a wrist injury but still managed to score 32 points.

The Houston Rockets secured their 11th consecutive victory with a narrow win over the Utah Jazz, thanks to Jalen Green's 30 points.

The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Sacramento Kings 107-103, with Dante Exum hitting the winning three-pointer. Meanwhile, the Miami Heat thrashed the Portland Trail Blazers 142-82, with Thomas Bryant delivering an impressive performance off the bench.
