U19 WWC Day 3: Japan wins Group C with 80-78 victory over Lithuania

The FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup Round of 16 matchups are now set following an eventful first phase in Madrid. Japan secured an intense 80-78 victory over Lithuania, claiming first place in Group C. Minami Yabu scored 23 points and Nanami Tsuno contributed 19 points and 7 assists to lead Japan to victory. Vilte Andrunaviciute's 25 points were not enough for Lithuania.
Mali continued their impressive run, securing second place in Group B with a 73-66 win against Germany. Maimouna Haidara delivered an outstanding performance with 16 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocked shots. The team displayed excellent teamwork, with four other players reaching double-digit scoring.
The reigning champions, the United States, dominated Chinese Taipei with an astonishing 112-49 victory. Hannah Hidalgo and Breya Cunningham led the charge with 32 points combined, while Londynn Jones contributed 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists.
In a tense battle, France secured second place in Group A with a 72-68 win against Australia. Leila Lacan led the scoring with 16 points, and Anaelle Dutat stood out with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals. Despite struggling from beyond the arc, shooting 2 of 16, France managed to secure the victory.
The Round of 16 promises exciting matchups as the competition intensifies in Madrid.
