Suns Hand Lakers First Loss as Durant and Booker Shine

Kevin Durant and Devin Booker led the Phoenix Suns to a thrilling 109-105 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, handing the Lakers their first loss of the NBA season. In a standout performance, Booker scored 33 points, while Durant contributed 30, showcasing their offensive prowess at the Footprint Center in Phoenix. The loss was particularly disappointing for the Lakers, as LeBron James had a subdued game, managing only 11 points, while Anthony Davis led his team with 29 points and Austin Reaves added 23.

 

The Lakers entered the game with a perfect 3-0 record under new head coach JJ Redick and started strong, building a commanding 26-8 lead in the first quarter. Davis was particularly effective during this period, scoring 16 points and setting the tone for the team. However, the Suns fought back and briefly took the lead, 50-48, before the Lakers responded with a strong third quarter, scoring 35 points to regain control of the game.

 

In the fourth quarter, the Suns shifted momentum decisively, outscoring the Lakers 33-22 to clinch the victory. This turnaround highlighted the resilience of the Suns, who faced an early challenge but managed to regain their composure and execute their game plan effectively. Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer praised his team's defensive toughness, noting that they responded well after being challenged in the first quarter.

 

In other NBA action, Paolo Banchero of the Orlando Magic made headlines by scoring 50 points against the Indiana Pacers, becoming the first Magic player to achieve a 50-point game in two decades. Banchero's explosive performance included a franchise-record tying 37 points in the first half, along with 13 rebounds and nine assists. Jalen Suggs also contributed significantly with 25 points, helping secure a 119-115 win for the Magic.

 

Banchero expressed his satisfaction with his performance, stating, "It was just being in the zone. I felt like I was in an open gym, back at home, just working on my game." His ability to find rhythm and consistently score was evident, as he described the experience of having a day where "every shot felt like it was going in," showcasing the confidence that comes with such a remarkable performance.
