Sources: Nick Nurse to take over as head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers

According to sources, the Philadelphia 76ers have hired Nick Nurse as their next coach, giving him the responsibility of leading the team to its first championship in 40 years.
Throughout Sunday and Monday, the Sixers and Phoenix Suns were negotiating with Nurse and his agent, Andy Miller of Klutch Sports, leaving Nurse to choose between two competitive clubs, according to sources.
According to sources, Nurse's desire to coach NBA MVP Joel Embiid and his relationship with Sixers head of basketball operations Daryl Morey were key factors in his choice to accept a contract with Philadelphia.
In the interview process, Nurse stood out by pitching a Sixers vision that was centred on Embiid.
James Harden, who is anticipated to become a free agency this summer, will now be part of a Sixers franchise that is eager to re-sign him.
After his sixth season in charge, Nurse parted ways with the Raptors in April. With Toronto, Nurse had a 227-163 (.582) record, winning the NBA title in 2019 and Coach of the Year honours in 2020.
After leading the Sixers to three appearances in the Eastern Conference playoffs, Doc Rivers was fired and will be replaced by Nurse. In this year's conference semifinals against the Boston Celtics, the Sixers were defeated in Game 7.
