Sabrina Ionescu won WNBA All-Star event with remarkable 25-shot performance

Posted : 15 July 2023
Sabrina Ionescu, the star player of the New York Liberty, made history at the WNBA All-Star event in Las Vegas by winning the three-point contest with a remarkable performance. She hit an incredible 25 out of 27 shots, setting a new record and surpassing any other player in the history of the competition.

Ionescu, who is the face of American women's basketball, has been making waves since she was drafted first overall in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her incredible shooting display in the contest earned her 37 points out of a possible 40, outshining NBA star Steph Curry's record in the same format.

Seattle Storm's Sammy Whitcomb came second with 24 points, and Dallas Wings' Erica Ogunbowale finished third with 11 points.

Born in the United States to Romanian immigrant parents, Ionescu has been a basketball prodigy since childhood, excelling against older opponents. Her mentor was the late Kobe Bryant, and she considers him a significant influence on her career.

In college, she achieved remarkable feats, becoming the first player, male or female, to finish with at least 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 1,000 assists in a college career. Additionally, she broke the record for most triple-doubles in college with 26.

Ionescu's win at the three-point contest adds to her already impressive status in American sports. Despite not leading New York Liberty to a championship yet, she is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world.

Her incredible shooting skills and determination have made her a true basketball phenomenon, and she continues to be an inspiration to young players everywhere.
