The coach of the victorious Rivers Hoopers Basketball team, Ogoh Odaudu, has signed a short-term contract with Rwanda Energy Group (REG).
The Rwandan basketball team announced Odaudu as their new head coach ahead of the Rwanda Basketball League (RBL) playoffs, which are set to tip off on Aug. 30.
Odaudu, 42, recently led the Nigeria Basketball Federation Premier League heavyweight Rivers Hoopers to their first-ever Basketball Africa League (BAL) playoffs, where the team secured a third-place finish in the 2024 season.
He was subsequently named the BAL 2024 Coach of the Year. The financial details of the short-term deal have not been disclosed.
The former D’Tigers player is already in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, and is expected to immediately lead the club’s training sessions in preparation for the playoffs.
“Odaudu arrived today, and we will hold a meeting with the team to finalize his role in the upcoming playoff games,” club president Joseph Ntwali said.
In addition to his tenure at Rivers Hoopers, Odaudu has also served as an assistant coach for the Nigerian national team.
The Rwanda Basketball League playoffs will feature Rwanda Energy Group facing APR, while the Patriots will compete against Kepler in the semi-finals of the best-of-five series.
After the playoffs, Ogoh Odaudu is expected to return to Rivers Hoopers for the NBBF Premier League, which has yet to announce a start date.
