The Nigeria Customs Service Women’s Basketball team could not hold on to their lead as they suffered an agonizing defeat at the hands of their archrivals, Mountain of Fire Ministries (MFM), with a 57-53 loss inside the SKD Gymnasium, Paynesville Indoor Hall, Liberia.
Entering the game as defending champions against the Nigerian champions, the Border Girls, coached by Abdulrahman Mohammed, started brightly and worked hard to take the first quarter 10-9.

In the second quarter, the Olukoya girls, led by coach Ochuko Owolabi, came into the game stronger, forcing the Customs team into several errors and allowing them to score 17 points compared to Nigeria Customs' 11, ending the second quarter 26-21 at the break.
The third quarter sparked a fire for Adewale Adeniyi’s ladies, who knew what was at stake. They fought back to recover their earlier deficit, outscoring the Olukoya ladies 22-13, to win the quarter 43-39.
The final quarter was more of a battle than a game, as Customs led by about six points with two minutes remaining. However, they couldn't manage the game plan effectively as MFM rallied back with two-pointer shots to reduce the deficit, making it a heated contest.
With just 20 seconds left on the clock, Hembam Wandoo sank a three-point shot, shocking the Customs ladies and putting her team one point ahead, 53-54. The Customs team, now in panic, made two more errors, allowing MFM to take four free throws, converting three points to end the game at 57-53.
With this victory, the Mountain of Fire Ministries Basketball team secured a spot in the African Women’s Basketball finals, scheduled for Dakar, Senegal, later this year.
