Reese Ties Double-Double Record as Clark Makes Triple-Double History in WNBA Rookie Rivalry

Posted : 08 July 2024

Reese, the seventh overall pick in this year's WNBA draft, matched Candace Parker's record for the longest double-double streak in league history on Friday. The 22-year-old then continued her impressive performance by scoring 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds for the Chicago Sky in their 84-71 loss to the Seattle Storm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark made history by becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to record a triple-double. Leading the Indiana Fever to an 83-78 victory over the New York Liberty, the 22-year-old first overall draft pick contributed 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists.

Both Clark and Reese have been selected for the WNBA All-Star game against the US women's national team on July 20 and are strong contenders for the Rookie of the Year award. Their rivalry, which began in college, has carried over into the professional arena. In the 2023 NCAA championship game, Clark was the top scorer for Iowa, but Reese led LSU to a 102-85 victory and earned the Most Outstanding Player award.

Clark and Iowa managed to avenge their previous defeat by beating LSU 94-87 in this year's competition to reach the Final Four. However, Iowa fell short in the championship game, losing to South Carolina.
