Philadelphia 76ers Face Continued Injury Struggles Ahead of Rockets Clash

Posted : 27 November 2024

The Philadelphia 76ers announced on Tuesday that Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Kyle Lowry will all remain sidelined for Wednesday's game against the Houston Rockets. Additionally, Caleb Martin is listed as questionable due to lower back soreness.

This marks the third consecutive game missed by both Embiid and George, with Embiid managing a left knee issue since last Friday's win over the Brooklyn Nets and George dealing with a hyperextended left knee sustained during last Wednesday’s loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Embiid's availability was initially ruled out for Sunday’s game shortly after halftime on Friday, and the team indicated that updates on his condition would come early this week.

Following the team's day off on Monday, the 76ers confirmed on Tuesday that Embiid, Lowry (hip injury), and Martin did not practice, while George participated in a limited capacity. Martin, who suffered a hard fall last Friday, exited Sunday’s loss to the LA Clippers early as his back issues persisted.

The Sixers had high hopes for a competitive season in the Eastern Conference, particularly after acquiring George from the Clippers. However, the team’s struggles have been evident, entering Wednesday’s game with a dismal 3-13 record.

The only team with a worse record is the Washington Wizards, who stood at 2-13 as of Tuesday. Injuries to key players have significantly hampered Philadelphia’s progress, with the star trio of Embiid, George, and Tyrese Maxey managing just six minutes on the court together this season.

Despite their early-season struggles, the 76ers remain optimistic about turning things around once their roster is healthy. However, the lack of continuity due to injuries and setbacks has left them grappling with a poor start in what was expected to be a promising campaign.
