Petro de Luanda advanced to the BAL Semi-Finals for the third consecutive season after passing another challenging test.
The Nile Conference winners from Angola finished last month's competition in Cairo with a thrilling 91-90 victory against the hosts Al Ahly before defeating Abidjan Basket Club 88-84 in the quarterfinals on Sunday night in Kigali.
The four lead changes in the fourth quarter demonstrated how equally balanced the game was and how it might have gone any way.
“A little bit of experience, I think,” ABC coach Liz Mills replied when asked about the difference between her team and Petro de Luanda.
“The fact that we’ve put this team together only four days ago I couldn’t be more proud of how they played. At the end of the day, experience mattered, but credit to them, but we really felt like [Harouna] said, we could have won the whole thing.”

The Angolan champions defeated Abidjan Basket Club 88-84 in the Quarter-Finals on Sunday night in Kigali after winning the Nile Conference in nail-biting fashion against the hosts Al Ahly last month in Cairo.
The four lead changes in the fourth quarter demonstrated that the game was evenly balanced and might have gone any way.
“We always believed we could beat Petro,” said Abdoulaye Harouna who lost to Petro for the third straight time after featuring for FAP 2021 and AS Sale in 2022.
