Rene Wakama, the Chief Tactician of Nigeria's surprise team in the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics, has dispelled fears about the team's quarter-final clash against the United States, stating that the team is not under pressure.
Recall that Nigeria's D'Tigress faces a crucial quarter-final match against the former Olympic gold medalists after emerging as the third-best team.
En route to the quarter-finals, D'Tigress surprisingly beat the third-best team in the world, Australia, but lost the second match to the host, France. The Nigerian side then rallied to defeat Canada in their last group match to qualify for the next round.
The African champions now face a crucial clash against the defending champions following their significant victory over Canada in the final group game.
The Nigerian team sent a warning signal to their potential opponents after their opening group win against Australia.
Wakama said she was pleased with the loss to France, as it allowed the team to return to their best form. She added that there is no pressure on them and emphasized that they have proven they deserve to be in the competition.
"I am glad we had that loss because we were able to get back to what we do best. Also, there is no pressure on us now, and we have shown everyone that we deserve to be playing here," she said.
