Once More, Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, and Giannis Antetokounmpo Made MVP Finalists

Nikola Jokic, the league's two-time reigning MVP, Joel Embiid, and Giannis Antetokounmpo were announced as the three contenders for the league's MVP award on Friday night.
Prior to the Eastern Conference play-in game between the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls on Friday night, the media-voted candidates for all seven of the league's top individual awards were revealed on TNT's "Inside The NBA." Voting must be done by Monday night.
Jokic, Embiid, and Antetokounmpo took the top three slots in the vote for the 2021 MVP award and ended in that order in the MVP voting from the previous season.
Jokic would join Hall of Famers Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, and Larry Bird as the only players in NBA history to win three consecutive MVP awards. After leading Denver to the top seed in the Western Conference last season, he just finished that campaign.
Jokic finished the season barely short of being the first center to ever average a triple-double, averaging 24.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 9.8 assists.
For the second consecutive season, Embiid led the league in scoring, becoming the first center to do so since Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo in the 1970s. In the previous two MVP elections, he came in second place to Jokic.
As he pursues his third MVP trophy, Antetokounmpo guided the Milwaukee Bucks to the NBA's best record.
