The Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC) announced on Friday its forthcoming launch of a grassroots basketball development initiative named "Game Changer" in Ogun State. This significant undertaking is set to commence with a dedicated basketball program designed specifically for secondary schools in Mowe, Ogun State. Scheduled for Tuesday, June 25, 2024, the event aims to engage and empower young students through the sport of basketball.
Tunde Popoola, the Secretary General of NOC, highlighted that the primary objective of the program is to offer Mowe students an opportunity to appreciate the importance of sports and education in youth development. This initiative also seeks to foster social interaction among students, providing them with a platform to connect with peers from various schools and learn about the activities facilitated by the Committee for Grassroots Sports in Nigeria (CGN).
Open to secondary school students aged 14 to 17 years old, "Game Changer" will feature sessions where resource persons will address career choices and impart life skills crucial for pursuing basketball careers. Beyond basketball exposure, the Additional Plus Sports and Education Initiative (APSE) Dance Academy will perform, aiming to inspire and motivate the participants during the event.
Twelve schools from both public and private sectors in Mowe, Ogun State, are slated to participate in the program, with each school represented by nine students and one Game Master. These schools include Rifat Pasha Quranic Memorization School, Graceland School, New Heights International School, Champions International College, Magboro, Mowe, Value Grace School, Pakuro, Flying Colors International School, Fortune Land Academy, Redeemers High School, SLEGG Flourish School, Nesgel High School, Advocate High School Pakuro, and God's Fabulous Home for Special Needs.
