Nigeria's Mike Brown named as NBA "Coach of the Year''

Nigeria's former men basketball team head coach, Mike Brown has been named "National Basketball Association (NBA) "Coach of the Year".

Brown won the 2022-23 NBA Coach of the Year award after leading his team Sacramento Kings back to the NBA playoffs for the first time in 17 years.

He also made history as the first ever unanimous NBA coach of the year, as all 100 voters from a panel of reporters and broadcasters had the 53-year-old atop their ballot.

On national scene, Mike Brown led D'Tigers to an undefeated record in the 2020 Afrobasket Championship qualifiers.

He also led Nigeria to a historic 90-87 win over USA in a pre-Olympic exhibition game at Mandalay Bay Arena in Las Vegas in August 2021, making Nigeria the first African team to ever defeat USA in basketball and also handed them their third loss in an exhibition game since 1992.
