Nigerian basketball player James Nnaji, at just 18 years old, has made his long-awaited NBA debut after making a remarkable transition from Spanish ACB side Barcelona to the NBA last month.
Nnaji, a talented rookie center, was originally drafted by the Detroit Pistons with the No. 31 pick in the NBA Draft.
However, he was acquired by the Charlotte Hornets on Draft Day in a trade that involved the Nos. 34 and 39 picks being sent to the Boston Celtics.
Making his debut during the Summer League for the Charlotte Hornets against the Golden State Warriors, Nnaji quickly caught the attention of the crowd with his impressive performance.
Despite limited playing time, he showcased his skills, recording 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 block in just 17 minutes of play, displaying his potential as a young player with a bright future.
The crowd was treated to dunks and blocks from Nnaji, solidifying his reputation as an exciting and versatile player.
Although the Hornets were ultimately defeated by the Warriors with a score of 98-83, Nnaji's strong showing left a lasting impression.
While he will continue to play for Barcelona for another year before officially joining the Hornets, his NBA debut allowed him to earn the respect and recognition of the league.
As James Nnaji embarks on this new chapter of his career, his successful debut serves as a testament to his talent and potential as he strives to make a lasting impact in the NBA.
