Ayo Dosunmu, a rising American basketball player with Nigerian heritage, has emerged as a key player for the Chicago Bulls in the past two seasons and is set to continue his journey with the team under a new contract.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Dosunmu's agent confirms the guard's agreement with the Bulls on a lucrative three-year, $21 million contract, as he enters the restricted free agent market this offseason.
Dosunmu's importance to the Bulls has been highlighted by Lonzo Ball's ongoing struggles with knee injury recovery, leading to Dosunmu stepping up as a valuable player for head coach Billy Donovan.
During his rookie season, Dosunmu made an impressive impact, earning a spot in the starting lineup for a solid three-month stretch, from January 15 to April 10.
During this period, he showcased his abilities, scoring an average of 11.0 points on 52.1 percent shooting, and dishing out 5.2 assists per game.
Due to his consistent performances and favorable evaluation by coach Billy Donovan, the 23-year-old was designated as a starter for the 2022-23 season.
Despite temporarily moving to the bench after the acquisition of Patrick Beverley in February, Dosunmu still managed to start 11 more games last season compared to his rookie year, highlighting his versatility and importance to the team.
With Dosunmu's promising talent and contributions on the court, the Chicago Bulls are optimistic about their future prospects and look forward to further success with him as a crucial part of their roster.
