The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) congratulates Team Nigeria's female basketball squad, D'Tigress, on their hard-earned qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
In a press release, the NBBF, led by its President, Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida, expressed immense praise for the Nigerian girls who secured the Olympic ticket by overcoming perennial arch-rivals Senegal in the ongoing qualification tournament in Antwerp, Belgium.
The NBBF highlighted that in preparing the team for the tournament, they faced numerous challenges, including the late release of players by their clubs, the team's inability to fully commit to training before matches, and late travel arrangements from various destinations to the tournament venue in Belgium.
Despite these challenges, the NBBF attributed the girls' monumental achievement to their belief and trust in the federation's leadership, as well as their self-determination, passion, and unbridled patriotism to bring pride to the country.
The NBBF expressed profound gratitude to the federal government, especially the Honourable Minister for Sports Development, Senator John Eno Owan, for unwavering support and determination to ensure the team's travel for the qualifiers, despite financial challenges faced by the Ministry.
The NBBF also appreciated the significant support of Nigerians at home and abroad who have developed a love for basketball and recognized the federation's string of successes over the years.
The NBBF reassured Nigerians and the Ministry of its unwavering determination and commitment to the growth and development of the game in Nigeria. They hope that early preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be ensured for the team to perform exceptionally well.
The federation added that it will be in Paris with its very best players, available both at home and around the world, who are willing to wear the Nigeria colors with pride and absolute patriotism.
