Match Day 4 of the Atlantic Conference playoffs in the Ibadan Centre produced an upset as the defending champions, Kwara Falcons, suffered their first loss of the campaign, while Impressions Academy of Delta secured their first win of the campaign.
Oluyole Warriors ended Kwara Falcons' unbeaten run, brilliantly beating the defending champions by a score of 67-58 points.
The Oyo State team bounced back from Tuesday's narrow loss to Ebun Comets with hunger, grit, and sheer determination to end the Harmony Warriors' winning streak in Ibadan.
Oluyole Warriors' Coach Taiye Sobogun said that his team played like true warriors.
"I feel so excited about beating the current champion of the league. It wasn't easy, and I'm so happy. I give glory to God," he said.
Speaking about the secret behind this important win, Coach Sobogun said that the team worked on its defense.
"We played strong defense. Any team that wants to win a championship must be solid defensively. My boys fought hard like warriors," he concluded.
The victory over Kwara Falcons is Oluyole Warriors' second win of the playoffs. They won their opening game 48-42 points against Impressions and suffered a narrow 48-52 point loss to Ebun Comets on Day 3.
In the first game of Day 4, Ebun Comets secured their third win with a comprehensive 67-44 point victory over Ondo Raiders.
The Ayo Bakare-led team had lost their opening game to Kwara Falcons before recording back-to-back wins against Impressions and Oluyole Warriors.
The result means Ondo Raiders have recorded one win and two defeats, with their only win coming against Invaders on Day 2.
In the second game of the day, Impressions Basketball Club of Delta secured their first win of the campaign with an impressive 73-65 point victory over Invaders.
Having lost their first two games to Oluyole Warriors and Ebun Comets, Coach of Delta State Impressions Basketball Academy, Mfon Kenneth, said he loved the positivity the win brings to his young team.
"That's the positive aspect we've been looking for. Invaders from Ekiti are also a young team, so they matched up, and we took the game."
"This competition will help my team move forward, but if the bigger teams refuse to play, we don't mind taking it, and we'll aim to reach the top four," he concluded.
Invaders Basketball Club of Ekiti is without a win, having lost their first two games to Ondo Raiders and Hoops & Reads.
Action continues on Day 5 with Ondo Raiders taking on Oluyole Warriors, while Impressions will face Hoops & Reads at 12:00 noon, and Kwara Falcons will play against Invaders in the last game of the day.
