As the NBA season approaches, several significant contract extensions were signed, mostly involving young talents coming off their rookie deals. Denver, aiming to remain a championship contender, secured Aaron Gordon with a four-year, $133 million contract. This comes after losing key players like Contavius Caldwell-Pope and Bruce Brown in recent years. Denver’s proactive approach reflects their desire to avoid similar losses in the future as they attempt to stay competitive.
Houston also made major moves, committing nearly $300 million to two of its emerging stars. Turkish center Alperen Sengun, after an impressive season averaging 21.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5 assists, signed a five-year deal worth $185 million. His backcourt partner, Jalen Green, who averaged 30.2 points and shot 50% from the field after the All-Star break, inked a three-year contract valued at $106 million. These deals indicate Houston’s intention to build around its young core for the long term.
Atlanta secured Jaylen Johnson with a five-year, $150 million contract following his breakout season, where he averaged 16 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists. Similarly, Orlando’s Jalen Suggs, known for his defensive skills, agreed to a five-year, $150.5 million extension, solidifying the Magic’s backcourt alongside Franz Wagner, who previously signed a massive $224 million deal.
Other notable contracts include Dallas extending Jaden Hardy’s deal for three years at $18 million after his strong playoff performance and Washington re-signing Corey Kispert for four years at $54 million. However, intriguing young talents like Jonathan Kuminga of Golden State and Josh Giddey of Chicago have yet to sign extensions, making them potential free agents next summer.
