Posted : 23 May 2023
After Nikola Jokic spearheaded a comeback in the second half to accomplish a 4-0 Western Conference championship sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers, the Denver Nuggets advanced to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history.
To win 113-111, the Nuggets overcame a 15-point halftime hole.
The two-time NBA MVP, Jokic, scored a total of 30 points.
From 1 to 18 June, the Denver Nuggets will play either the Miami Heat or the Boston Celtics in the championship game.
The Heat have a 3-0 advantage in the Eastern Conference and can win game four on Wednesday to win the series.
LeBron James had appeared to be holding the Lakers' season together on his own after the Lakers outscored the 17-time NBA champions 73-58 in the first half on the strength of his 31 points.
Jokic, though, helped the Nuggets attack pick up steam in the third quarter, scoring 13 points as the top seeds in the Western Conference beat the Lakers 36-16 to turn the game around.
With 51.7 seconds left in a thrilling fourth quarter, Jokic made a driving layup through a crowd to give Denver a two-point lead.
