After losing to the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Playoffs, the Phoenix Suns dismissed coach Monty Williams.
Williams, 51, was named NBA Coach of the Year last season, but after the 4-2 series defeat, he was fired.
"We are filled with gratitude for everything Monty has contributed to the Suns and to the Valley community," said Suns president of basketball operations James Jones.
Five teams are currently seeking for new head coaches as a result of his firing.
Despite winning the regular season with the best record in the league, the Milwaukee Bucks dismissed 2019 coach of the year Mike Budenholzer following their play-off series loss to the Miami Heat, becoming the 2021 champions by defeating Williams' Phoenix club.
After five seasons with the Toronto Raptors, during which time he steered them to the 2019 NBA title, Nick Nurse was fired.
At the conclusion of the campaign, the Houston Rockets decided not extend the contract of Stephen Silas, while the 2018 coach of the year, Dwane Casey, departed from his position as head coach of the Detroit Pistons.
Williams played for the Suns for four seasons, guiding them to three straight postseason appearances.
