NBA Finals: Jokic led Nuggets to 2023 NBA Finals victory
Posted : 02 June 2023
In the opening game of the 2023 NBA Finals, the Denver Nuggets easily defeated the underwhelming Miami Heat 104-93.
The Nuggets centre Nikola Jokic was the star, recording a triple-double with double digits in points, assists, and rebounds.
In front of their home fans, Denver never seemed like they would lose in their first finals game in 47 years.
They now lead the Heat in the best-of-seven series 1-0.
Heat had no answer for the 28-year-old Serb, who finished with 27 points, 14 assists, and 10 rebounds. Jokic responded to the occasion.
"Right now, the most important thing is to win a game, and I'm trying to win a game in any possible way," Jokic told reporters.
"I don't need to shoot and I know I don't need to score to affect the game, and I think I did a good job today. Everybody contributed."
Aaron Gordon contributed 16 points, Michael Porter Jr. supplied 14, and Jamal Murray contributed 26 points in support of Jokic.
Bam Adebayo put up a great performance for the Heat, scoring 26 points while receiving little assistance from his teammates.
"They were in a pretty good rhythm, especially in that first half," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said of the Nuggets.
"Our disposition, the efforts, the resolve in the second half was much better. But when you get to this level, it has to be complete games."
