Milwaukee Bucks overcome absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo, secure 113-106 victory against LA Clippers

Posted : 05 March 2024

Despite the absence of star player Giannis Antetokounmpo due to left Achilles tendinitis, the Milwaukee Bucks clinched a remarkable 113-106 victory over the LA Clippers, extending their winning streak to six games.

Damian Lillard led the charge with an impressive 41 points, supported by Bobby Portis, who contributed 28 points and 16 rebounds off the bench. The Bucks overcame a 15-point deficit in the second half, showcasing resilience and teamwork.

Lillard emphasized the team's evolving identity, noting the lack of focus on absent players before the game. The Bucks rallied from a 15-point deficit with under five minutes in the third quarter, displaying their fourth 15-point comeback win this season.

Lillard highlighted the team's growing trust in each other, both defensively and offensively, attributing their success to consistent communication and a shared commitment to their playing style.

This marked only the third time the Bucks played without Antetokounmpo this season, and the first since January 17. Additionally, forward Khris Middleton was absent, having been sidelined since spraining his ankle on February 6.

Coach Doc Rivers expressed uncertainty about their availability for the upcoming West Coast road trip, emphasizing the need to assess their conditions.

Antetokounmpo, dealing with the Achilles injury for the past few games, participated in pregame shooting but cut short his routine, indicating the ongoing challenges with the injury. Middleton, out for almost a month, continues to recover, with the team hoping for his return during the upcoming road trip.

Rivers emphasized caution, stating they won't push players unless fully ready, prioritizing their long-term well-being over immediate returns.
