Olumide Oyedeji, President of the WABC, stated in an exclusive interview that the success achieved at the tournament has been a milestone.
“WABC is a great tournament; we started with six teams, then five, and now we are at the final four.
“It's fantastic to see the young players showcasing their talents and doing what they love best.
“I am excited about the level and standard of performances so far; it's a masterpiece.
“The short-term goal of this tournament is to expand the competition to other West African countries, while the long-term goal is to participate in the Basketball Africa League (BAL),” he said.
Oyedeji also congratulated the Rivers Hoopers for their success in winning the bronze at the just-concluded BAL in Kigali.
Ahmed Olusoji, the point guard for the victorious Gidi Giants, expressed his determination to win the maiden edition.
“I feel happy about winning our first game, but we need to prepare well for the next match, which is the final.
“Before the final, we will focus on improving our defense and coordination because our goal is to win the competition,” he said.
The final of the WABC will be played on June 7 at the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere.
