Luka Doncic: NBA star to cover burial costs for Belgrade school shooting victims

The burial expenses for the eight students and security guard slain in the Belgrade school shooting on Wednesday will be covered, according to NBA player Luka Doncic.

Doncic, a Slovenian with a Serbian father, will also cover the cost of staff and student grief counseling sessions.

"I am heartbroken by the tragic school shooting in Serbia and the loss of lives, including those of innocent children," he said.

"I support and stand with you all during this difficult time."

Doncic, a guard for the Dallas Mavericks, has stated that he is "dedicated" to using his philanthropic foundation to offer "both immediate and long-term" assistance to the victims of the tragedy.

In the shooting at the Vladislav Ribnikar elementary school, six more students and a teacher were hurt.

Along with his mother and father, a 13-year-old child has been detained in connection with the shooting.

A suspect has been detained in the interim following a second incident that occurred on Thursday, 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of Belgrade.
In the incident, eight individuals died and at least 14 more were wounded.
