Louis Edem Invitational Basketball Championship attracts elite teams from Ghana, Benin Republic

Elite teams from Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic are set to participate at the Louis Edem Invitational Basketball Championship holding in Lagos.
Nigeria men’s premier league champions, Kwara Falcons Basketball Club will hope to retain the title they won early this year when the second edition dunks off in August.
Coming on the heels of the highly successful maiden championship held in Lagos in February, the second edition of the Invitational basketball championship will feature 16 teams; 10 male and 6 female.
Scheduled to hold from Aug. 27 to Sept. 2, at the Indoor Sports hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, the international championship will see teams from neighboring West Africa countries; Ghana and Benin Republic vie for honours.
Initiator and founder, Louis Edem said his foundation is happy to stage the second edition of the tournament, in partnership with the Nigeria Basketball Federation, six months after the inaugural championship.
The former national team player stated that the aim is to promote the basketball development and give players opportunity to showcase their talent and share the N4.5 million prize money on offer.
The two-time Nigerian Premier Basketball league Most Valuable Player, who is now an Information Technology Engineer in Maryland, United States, stated that his efforts to give back to the basketball community and enhance players development motivated the foundation to stage the championships.
The men’s team are Kwara Falcons from Ilorin, Lagos Legends, Police Baton, Rivers Hoopers from Port Harcourt, Warlord from Ogun State and Ebun Comets from Lagos
Others are Sprinter Knights and Brave Basketball Clubs from Ghana; Aspac Basketball Club and Elan Cotton Basketball Clubs from Benin Republic.
